The maintenance of the water heater is an easy task. You need the following tools,

  • A bucket to collect water.
  • A wrench to open the valves.
  • A pipe to drain the water.
  • A screwdriver to open the screws.

Proper and regular maintenance of the water heater can increase its life for a long time and enhance its efficiency. People think that the Maintenance of the water heater is costly, but it isn't so. You can do it by yourself at home. We are here with some simple steps to do the maintenance of your water heater.

  • Release the Temperature and Pressure
  • Scan the Anode
  • Cleanse the Sediments

Test Temperature and Pressure Release Valve:


The first step in the maintenance of the Water Heater is to test the Temperature Pressure Release valve. So, to do that you must,

  • Cut the power supply of the water heater.
  • Then open the valve and let the water drain.
  • Then close the valve, if you see any leakage, then you should replace it.
  • To replace it all you have to do is to open its screws with the help of a wrench and install another one.

Scan the Anode:


After testing the TPR valve, open the heater and check the anode. An anode is installed to extract the crossover minerals from the water. These minerals make a crossover layer around the anode. So, when the anode must be replaced regularly for the better functioning of the water heater.
Cleanse the Sediment:
Sediments are settled on the bottom of the heater tank. These sediments deplete the quality of the water. To cleanse them, all you have to do is,

  • Open the supply and drainage valves.
  • Let the water drain.
  • Wash the tank with fresh water until the tank is fully clean.
  • Close the supply and drain valves.

Thermostat Adjustment:


The thermostat controls the temperature and the amount of energy consumed by your water heater. So, its maintenance is very important. You have to follow these steps,

  • Open the thermostat dial.
  • Check the dial.
  • Adjust the temperature to about 100°.
  • Then close the thermostat dial.

Insulation Check:


During maintenance, you must check the insulation of the wires of your water heater. If they are damaged, it can cause havoc. So, insulate the wires and pipes regularly to avoid any mishap.
Insulation of the Body:
It is recommended to replace the insulation of the water heater on every maintenance. All you have to do is to cut the previous insulation and cover the body with a new one.
