Roofs- Why do they Leak?

A roof is a structure that envelopes the house from natural calamities like reason, snow, and storm. It also gives support to the walls of the building. No one intentionally wants the roofs to be leaking. No one wants to be in psychological tension of the weather praying for clouds not to shower. Any kind of issue in roofing takes a lot of money and time. So, we are here to help you in advance. We are here with some reasons that cause the roof leakage.

  • Banged Flashings
  • Damaged Shingles
  • Unsealed Valleys
  • Cracks in Ventilator Booting
  • Usage of Poor Materials
  • Obstruction is Water Flow
  • Cracks in the Roof
  • Older Roofs

Rusted Flashings:

The pieces of metal mounted under the shingles are known as flashing. The flashing is installed to make your roof waterproof. As the flashing are metallic pieces so they face corrosion with time. Which eventually leads to roof leakage. So, the flashing must be changed as soon as it starts rusting.

Damaged Shingles:
Shingles must be installed perfectly by highly experienced and capable professionals. The material should also be of good quality. Because, when the shingles are installed poorly or they are made up of poor material, they can not withstand natural disasters. Once they are dislocated or damaged, they can be the mother cause of roof leakage.

Unsealed Valleys:
Mostly, the 'V' which joins the sloppy roofs is not sealed well. Sometimes it is sealed with poor material, or it is damaged. So it can also cause roof leakage. So, you should keep a keen eye on Valleys and take the help of professionals for regular maintenance.

Cracks in Ventilator Booting :
Ventilators are installed in the houses for the exchange of fresh air. Their openings are mostly ignored while having regular maintenance. In such cases, heavy rain can cause leakage through the damaged bootings of the ventilators. The booting must be maintained regularly to avoid such tragedies.

Poor Materials:
Some people compromise on the quality just to save some money. The poor material gets punctured with some time and becomes the cause of the leakage of the roof. Hence the person has to pay too much amount for its repair. So, the material should be chosen wisely.

Obstruction is Water Flow:
It is said that the water makes its way. So, in case of obstruction in the passageway of the water, the water starts gathering. The pooled water then seeps down to the roofs and causes leakage. So, it must be ensured that the water is not obstructed in case of rain.

Cracks in the Roof:
Due to intense movement or impact on the roof, the roof gets cracked. This causes damage to the internal structure of the roof and eventually, leakage is the result. So, suck cracks must be repaired in time.

Older Roofs:
Everything has an expiration date. The materials of the roofs also get expired and tempered. Which results in leakage of the roof. You eventually have to replace your roofs, it's inevitable. But you can elongate their lives with regular maintenance.
